From bVI7 to V7 (Ab7 to G7alt in C minor) the bass slides down a half step and so do the 3rd and 7th. The long stretches on i leave room for modal playing: Dorian on the minor chords, Lydian dominant on the bVI7 and the altered scale on the V. Practice the minor pentatonic and the blues scale over the whole form, then target the changes.
