The major scale and its modes are the most commonly used scales in western music.
Its modes play the same notes from another degree: A Dorian from the 2nd, B Phrygian from the 3rd, C Lydian from the 4th, D Mixolydian from the 5th, E Aeolian from the 6th and F# Locrian from the 7th.
